80th D-Day anniversary
Our D-Day celebrations at St Winifreds Care Home started with our commemoration wall which we filled with beautiful decorations created by our residents. They were very pleased with the end results and thought the wall looked wonderful, and were particularly proud of our large ’80’ to represent the 80th anniversary year.
We sat and watched the D-Day service on television, which several of our residents found very emotional to watch; a very poignant way to start the day.
National Fish and Chip Day
This year National Fish and Chip Day, which normally falls on the first Friday in June, was brought forward to coincide with D-Day, so we thought we’d make the most of it!
Our residents enjoyed freshly cooked battered cod and chips for our special D-Day lunch, which was heartily enjoyed by all. This was followed by a lovely lemon sponge and custard and a selection of cold desserts.
Thank you to our Chef James for such a wonderful lunch.
Afternoon tea
To conclude our D-Day celebrations, James and Kenna from our Catering Team created a fantastic cream tea with a super selection of fresh sandwiches and homemade scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream – yum!
Our ladies and gents said it was ‘a perfect end to a perfect day‘ and wish to thank our team, especially our Catering colleagues, for the amazing food they served.
