Our Furloughed Friends at St Winifreds Care Home

St Winifreds Care Home were delighted to hear from Elsie, their well-loved and highly missed Activities Coordinator, and Dave their Maintenance Man last week – as to what they have been doing while on furloughed leave.

Aside from recovering from the nasty COVID-19 virus alongside her husband Bill, Elsie has kept idle hands at bay with lots of knitting for the ‘Warm Baby Project Appeal’. As a way to keep in touch while lockdown continues, she sent us an email with a photo of her knitting:

“I started the knitting for the ‘Warm Baby Project Appeal’ with the residents at St Winifreds. They had been making blankets and canular sleeves, and I have added to that along with hats, booties and cardigans. I am hoping to do more with plenty of wool on order! Bill and I have both been really poorly with COVID-19 so we didn’t get anything done for two weeks. However, our fantastic family and friends made sure we had everything we needed. Our St Winifreds friends have sent lovely messages and Hazel has been in touch constantly. Knowing people care is the best medicine ever. I’m missing everyone and hoping to get back to work in a few weeks – getting there, slowly but surely. Love to you all. Xxx”

And thankfully, our fantastic (part-time) Maintenance Man Dave has kept in touch while he remains at home with his wife on furloughed leave; he misses the home greatly and can’t wait to come back once this is all over. Dave sent in a photo of him relaxing with a drink on Friday 8 May while celebrating VE Day. Cheers!

We all miss them both so much!
