Our residents at St Winifreds Care Home recently enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Hurricane and Spitfire Museum, where history truly came to life. Brian, Ruby, and Gaye were excited to explore the displays, which were filled with fascinating wartime artefacts that sparked plenty of conversation and curiosity.
As we admired the iconic aircraft, Brian asked what the difference was between a Spitfire and a Hurricane, as they looked very similar. We discovered that the Spitfire has rounded wing tips, while the Hurricane’s wings are flat—a detail our residents found very interesting to learn.
After exploring the exhibits, we took a well-deserved break in the museum café, where our residents enjoyed hot drinks and toasted tea cakes with jam – a treat that was savoured by all.
On our way out, we noticed how some of the old bomb shells had been cleverly transformed into donation boxes. Our residents were more than happy to contribute, knowing that the museum relies on these donations to remain open to the public, as entry is free of charge.
It was a truly memorable day and we had a lovely time together. Our residents left with smiles on their faces, and plenty of new stories to share back at St Winifreds Care Home.
